JAMES B. PETTIT, Jr., AIA
Project Manager
Jim joined Penza Associates Architects, Inc. in 1999 and he comes to our firm after many years of experience with major firms in the Baltimore area, with a comprehensive background in a variety of building types. His experience with multi-use buildings, retail design, renovations and environmental graphics projects is extensive.
His responsibilities have included the full range of management, design, production and construction administration tasks for architectural, interior and graphic design work. More recent and notable projects include the Condos at 612 Washington Boulevard; the Offices at 28 Walker Avenue; Maryland Jockey Club's prototype facility, North East Racing & Sports Club; Beason’s View Townhouse Development; and the Master Plan for the League for People with Disabilities. He also had major responsibilities for the restoration design of Baltimore’s United States Customs House; interior renovations for the William Donald Schaefer Tower and the Office of Administrative Hearings at Greenspring Station; the St. Ambrose Family Outreach Center; Marvelous Works Outreach Center and a number of commercial centers. Urban design issues are of particular interest to Jim.
In addition to his professional practice experience, Jim brings to the firm his experience as a former Associate Professor of Architecture at Morgan State University and his talents as editor and/or illustrator for several publications. He is active in the community and has served on the Board of the Historic Original Northwood Association as well as the Board of the Baltimore Architectural Foundation. Jim presently serves on the Art Department Advisory Board for Villa Julie College and the Board of the Northeast Development Alliance (NEDA). He is a member of the Baltimore Chapter, AIA, 1000 Friends of Maryland and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. He is an active member of the AIA's Historic Resources Committee and is the firm’s contact for the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

DWAYNE VAN HORN, AIA
Project Architect
Dwayne joined Penza Associates Architects, Inc. in 1994, extending his experience as project architect, as well as the firm's computer system coordinator.
His project experience encompasses many types of commercial, retail and residential projects. Commercial project experience includes medical, office design, and rehabilitation work. Private residential design experience includes additions, alterations and rehabilitation of existing structures and custom homes.
He is an active founding member of the Residential Design Group and founding Chairman of the Baltimore ArchiCAD Users Group.
