Magothy River Home

Penza Associates was asked by this former client to design a second home for their waterfront property on the Magothy River in Anne Arundel County. The existing property has been owned by the family for decades and was comprised of four separate lots with two summer cottages on two of the lots. The decision was made to demolish the existing structures and consolidate all of the long and narrow lots for better siting for the new house.

The design of the house takes full advantage of the views toward the water by utilizing extensive glass walls while the street side of the house affords much greater privacy by employing a solid stucco wall with smaller punched windows. Exposed post and beam construction on the interior conveys a decidedly contemporary aesthetic as do deep overhangs of the galvanized, corrugated metal roof. A small enclosed "crows nest" extended above the main roof of the house provides breathtaking 360 degree views of the surrounding landscape.
