A Converted Mill

Historically a working mill site, the original structure was built in the 1800's. In need of a gentle nudge into the 21st century, the owners and members of the design team were very careful to maintain the original charm, while bringing the home into a realm of livability.

The location, along the Western Run in Baltimore County, is breathtaking. Thoughtful siting of the new "out buildings" (home office and garage) and landscaping afford a view of the newly refurbished pond.

On the exterior, a new, painted wood entranceway was added to the original entrance door, which successfully appears that it has always been there. A new sunroom addition was constructed adjacent to the kitchen, which takes optimum advantage of the property views and light. New windows and copper roof were also necessary improvements.

The interior was carefully renovated with new built-in shelving in the living room, a new kitchen and updated bathrooms, all maintaining as much reverence to the existing as possible. Interior design elements compliment the charming home.
