Curran Memorial Clock Tower

Councilman Robert Curran met with the Mid Govans and Woodbourne/McCabe neighborhood associations and York Road Partnership to share plans to repair the carillon in the Curran Memorial (at the corner of Woodbourne and York Road) and relocate it to the entranceway at Stadium Place. Stadium Place project representatives (GEDCO members, Reverend Sharp of Govans Presbyterian Church and the Curran family) have worked toward supporting  GEDCO in its decision to reuse only the carillon bells on the iron ‘belltower’. In an effort to maintain a suitable memorial at the present location, the committee proposed a clocktower that would utilize most of the existing structure. Penza Associates Architects presented initial concept sketches in the fall of 2004 to the Woodbourne-McCabe and Mid-Govans communities and to the York Road Partnership. Attorney General Curran has commenced additional fundraising for this project in order to see it through to fruition.
