JHU, Homewood Campus
PAA has been working with the Johns Hopkins University to address a number of accessibility issues in and around their academic buildings on the Homewood Campus just off Charles Street. We are excited to be participating in this effort. To date we have completed documentation for projects in five buildings, including the Milton S. Eisenhower Library, Krieger Hall, Whitehead Hall, Shriver Hall and Garland Hall. Projects vary considerably in scope and size. They include the installation of a Limited Use/Limited Access (LU/LA) low-rise elevator and a complete rearrangement and redesign of the security desk at the Milton S. Eisenhower Library as well as a new covered entry and access doors at Shriver Hall (illustrated). Of interest in one project is the use of water conserving waterless urinals throughout the half-dozen toilet rooms in that building. JHU is engaged in an ongoing and aggressive program designed to address the myriad of accessibility issues that older institutions throughout the country have had to face since the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
